This year, we are pleased to be hosting the third edition of Scientia's STEM Youth Writing Competition (SYWC).
TO WRITE: An article between 500 - 1200 words excluding citations and bibliography, centered around this year's theme. Harvard referencing should be used.
THEME: The theme for 2025 is: CONQUERING THE STARS
SUBMISSION DATE: The submissions form will be open on this page from October 1st to November 15th.
JUDGING & RESULTS: The judging rubric can be found below. In the first round of marking, the Scientia team and partners will create a shortlist of the top 20 entries. Then, the shortlisted articles will be marked by 3 professors from Mahidol University. Results will be released December 2025/ January 2026.
PRIZES: First prize, second prize, and third prize will recieve 1000, 500, and 200 USD respectively.
All finalists (top 20) in Thailand will be able to go on a trip to either Google or Microsoft HQ.

Judging Rubric
Each article will be marked by at least 2 people during the initial stage. The criteria are as follows:
Clarity & Focus (out of 15): Writing explains a topic connected to the theme so that it is made clear and understandable to a general reader. The structure is logical, and all ideas are related to the topic.
Evidence: (out of 15) Writing provides relevant background information and uses trustworthy academic sources, appropriate quotations and citations, and shows significant research to explain and give context to the topic.
Analysis (out of 10): The article addresses the full scope of the topic, including significance and possible future work. If applicable, the article could also present and discuss multiple concepts/approaches in the topic.
Language (out of 10): Writing is engaging for the reader throughout, while using appropriate style and register. It features accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
